Membrane plates filter presses are used since several years in the chemical, food and industrial industries. Nowadays this kind of filter presses is more and more used for any kind of materials (Dyes, Pigment, Pharmaceuticals, Edible Oil, quarries, urban and industrial sludge of any kind)
The outside sides of these plates are lined with a plastic or rubber membrane. Membrane filter plates have a chamber below the drainage surface that may be inflated. Membrane Filter press is generally used in mix-pack configuration of one companion plate (Recessed) and one Membrane plate. After a conventional filtration process in the filter press (feeding usually at pressure: 7 to 10 bars), the membranes are inflated by means of pressurized water or compressed air thereby squeezing the cakes all over their surface. The volume of the cake thus decreases and an additional volume of filtrate is extracted. The final filter cake is a result of squeezing by the membrane. The high pressure PP membrane plate is the latest and the most practical new type filter plate.
Low cake moisture content by pressure filtration can be achieved with recessed plates by high filtration pressure and long filtration time only. The membrane system requires much lower filtration pressure to fill the chambers The low cake moisture content is caused by squeezing with a flexible membrane. The production cycle is determined by
Or other process such as dry-blow,core blow and cake-wash(if any)
Application of squeezing pressure to filter cake by elastic membranes replaces the high pressure filtration phase of recessed plates. Advantages:
transport costs due to compact and very dry filter cakes Prolong the span-life of filter plate and filter clothes
NMP membrane technology creates homogeneous cake without cracks by applying a low membrane squeeze pressure during cake washing
Diameter and quantity of filtrate outlet ports can be adapted to process requirements
The materials used by NMP allow installations in almost every field of application and can be adapted to any working conditions.
A Squeeze Pump is used to pressurize the water in membrane plates in order to carry out the squeezing process. Depending on the cases, this pump can be a Impeller type and Volumetric type. At the end of each squeezing process, the volume of water behind the plates is sucked and goes back to in a stocking tank. The squeezing process water is used in a closed circuit.
Safety reminder: the deflation valve must be normal open type which is only closed during squeeze process and always opened in any other process
During the feeding operation the membranegoes inbackward direction under low tension.Feeding operation is completed when the required feed pressure is obtained.
During squeezing process the membrane goes forward in direction with help of the squeezing medium like air/water. Squeezing process in the membrane filter press reduces the moisture content in the filter cake significantly. The squeezing pressure is normally
higher than the feed pressure. After squeezing the cake thickness should be smaller than thechamber depth. Otherwise overfilling of the chambers could be existent.
1. Never use more than one recessed filter element between two membrane filter Plates: The squeezing of the membranes generates enormous forces, which can destroy the recessed filter Plates. Effects on the filter press as well as damage to persons and property—cannot be excluded in this event.
2. Never use the tail (end) plate exclusively to shorten the filter pack. Instead, use an accordingly dimensioned blanking plate (please contact NMP Filtration for details). The surface pressure during filtration or squeezing inevitably results in differential pressure, and thus in the destruction of the filter Plates. This may lead to property damage and injuries.
